April 15, 1955 is dated as the when the first franchised McDonald's restaurant opened in Des Plaines, Illinois. Now while many claim that the fast-food restaurant has been influential in America's obesity rate, the company still remains one of the largest food chains in the world. They also pioneered the promotional food movement by offering fast food services, and showing expert tactics when it came to franchising. The custom food products that they have released, such as the Big Mac, have become recognized worldwide, even garnering quotes from movies like Pulp Fiction.
