Cuddly, Comfy, Cozy

It's the most wonderful time of the year...no not the holidays, those have passed people. It's Cuddle Day; and what more perfect time of year to snuggle up close to someone you care about then in the middle of winter. Now it's important to note the different ways that one can cuddle, you can: A. Grab a fleece blanket and get in real nice and close, I'm talking feel their pulse kinda close. B. Find a person that most resembles a big teddy bear (you all know you have a friend like that) and cuddle up by the fire. or C. If a person isn't your forte, grab your favorite stuffed animal and give it a nice big squeeze. Whatever style you choose today make sure its a comfy one and sure to last a while!

All Play...and Some Work?

Today is National Fun at Work Day! Woooooooooooooooooo, see all the fun I’m having? Get out your noise makers and whistles, throw all the papers off your desk and shake it to some funky music. Seriously though, lighten up. In the words of Seal “We’re never going to survive unless we get a little crazy”. So log out of your e-mail, turn off your cell phone and play some paper football with your neighbor (as long as your boss isn’t within sight or field goal range). Your work will be waiting for you when you return…trust me.

Chocolate Lovers Unite!

Attention ladies and gentlemen today is the day that you have all been waiting for: Chocolate Cake Day! To me, chocolate cake is the ultimate dessert. Now don’t get me wrong, New York style cheesecake and banana splits will always have a fond place in my heart, but nothing can compare to a mouth full of chocolate.

While you prepare for the deliciousness that is Chocolate Cake Day keep a few rules in mind. 1. The more chocolate the better, 2. Don’t be afraid to mix the original chocolate cake up a bit say add some peanut butter (minus the salmonella of course!) or eat it a la mode, and 3. Why stop at just cake, how about some chocolate bars or a chocolate chip cookie perhaps? Who cares, the gym will still be there tomorrow…or next week

Spouse's Day

Attention all spouse’s officially in the “doghouse”, today is Honor your Spouse Day. Now, I know Valentine's Day is only a couple of weeks away (come on guys, did you forget again?), but think of the look on your spouse’s face when you come home with some love apparel on a random day in January.

Surely whatever you did to get yourself in the doghouse will long be forgotten once you present your spouse with a photo, maybe in a custom frame, of you two from your vacation last summer or a mug to keep their coffee warm on those remaining bitter cold winter mornings (to replace the one YOUR dog chewed up)…oh yeah, wine and flowers never hurt either! Who knows, maybe your thoughtfulness will rub off on your spouse and they’ll return the favor come tomorrow…

Bring on the Pie!

(Via: Cook Like Mad)

Today is National Pie Day! For this holiday, we celebrate our favorite pies like deep dish blueberry pie and Oreo cookie pie, and chicken pot pie (my personal favorites) by baking your most desired pie recipes! Now if you don’t belong in the kitchen (for example either your idea of a complicated kitchen product is a bag clip or you almost burned down the house making oatmeal) then you can always savor the taste of fresh pie from a bakery. Or you are on a diet your can make a healthier version of a yummy pie recipe.

This sweet holiday is for everyone!

National Blonde Brownie Day

(Via: Diana’s Desserts)

Shout out to the blonde brownies!

Blonde brownies are like their chocolate brownie kin but instead of chocolate you use brown sugar and vanilla extract to give them a lighter color. Although you can always add chocolate chips to the top if you need your chocolaty fix, blonde brownies are a sweet treat despite the absence of chocolate.

Blonde brownies are great desserts for mini parties at the office or at home or as bait for your girl/boyfriend to convince them to do something for you!

So have an awesome time incorporating this light colored treat into your life.

Squirrel Appreciation Day

Awwwwww! How can you not appreciate that face!

So since today is Squirrel Appreciation Day, find some ways to show your neighborhood squirrel that you care. Get a squirrel feeder and fill it with the best raw nuts and seeds! You can even promote education with squirrels! Implement a fun project in schools having the children draw squirrel portraits and learn about the various types of squirrels and how squirrels are important to the environment.

Have a great time appreciating that special squirrel in your life!

Today is National Bill Cosby Sweater Day

POP QUIZ: Which American actor and educator starred as a doctor in his own TV series from 1984 to 1992? I will give you a clue: he is known for his sweaters. If you still don’t know the answer, then that just means you completely ignored the title of “Today is National Bill Cosby Sweater Day”! YES! The answer is BILL COSBY! GEEZ…

So how do we promote a day dedicated to Bill Cosby’s infamous fashion sense? We emulate it of course! So have fun at the office, wearing your best Cosby sweater!

I wonder if there is going to a Cosby Show marathon sometime tonight.

Spread the word!!!

National Popcorn Day!

(Via: Yum Sugar)

Not only is today Martin Luther King Jr. Day but it is also NATIONAL POPCORN DAY. So while you are listening to a compilation of Dr. King’s speeches, you can eat a bucket of popcorn! What an awesome time! I think a good popcorn flavor to encompass both occasions would be sweet caramel popcorn because popcorn is a beloved snack and Martin Luther King Jr. was a kindhearted and respected advocate of peace and civil rights.

Popcorn is a great gift, a party favor, a yummy snack, and can even be made into a necklace! You can go the easy route and pop some microwave popcorn or can enjoy some homemade popcorn. I plan on trying out any recipes that have the word "popcorn" in it like popcorn chicken, popcorn balls, popcorn shrimp, chocolate caramel popcorn etc.

How are you going to celebrate National Popcorn Day?

Strawberry Ice Cream Day!

(Via: Denise's Kitchen)

O JOY! Well actually I don’t know who will willfully eat ice-cream in the dead of winter (I mean unless you live in an area that never sees snow). But in any case, today is Strawberry Ice Cream Day, which is a great time to satisfy that sweet cavity-laden tooth of yours!

Now you can be simple when promoting this day by reaching for that Ben & Jerry’s Strawberry Ice Cream you have hidden in the freezer OR you can make your own gourmet strawberry ice cream creation (like strawberry ice cream cake or homemade strawberry ice cream topped with almond biscotti). I think this holiday deserves the usage of the king of all serving utensils: the stainless steel ice cream scooper!

Have fun going crazy this Strawberry Ice Cream Day!

National Dress Up Your Pet Day

(Via: Sassy Pup)

Coming down the runway are Rover and Goldie the Fish sporting a sleek chiffon blouse with skinny jeans and boots to die for...WAIT what am I saying???

Today MUST be National Dress Up Your Pet Day, which is a great time for you to outwardly say that your pet is the cutest animal in the world and deserves better clothes than you do!

Does your pet have keen fashion sense? You can spoil your pet with the latest gear and pet themed accessories. If your pet decides to get all dolled up for the occasion then you can have an impromptu photo shoot and put your favorite picture in a photo frame to promote this zany holiday.

Make sure you dress your pet accordingly. The super cold weather means nothing skimpy and scandalous, sorry!

Zany Date: Jordan's Retirement Annoucement

My attitude is that if you push me towards something that you think is a weakness, then I will turn that perceived weakness into a strength. --Michael Jordan

For all you basketetball fanatics, here is a zany date annoucment! Legendary professional basketball player Michael Jordan announced his retirement today in 1999 only to return to the NBA again in 2001.

All I have to say is I don't know who can ever live up to his showmanship, professional, and skill on the court.

Organize Your Home Day

(Via: Clutter Control Freak)

January must be a "clean your mess" themed month because today is also Organize Your Home Day. So while you are sitting at your desk in your office thinking about how to clean up your cluttered work life, you can also be promoting home cleaning. For Organize Your Home Day, stop blaming the dog or the little kids for all the mess; let's get and clean up!

Start in that bathroom first! UGH! :-/

National Clean Off Your Desk Day

(Via: My Messy Life)

Ok so a LITTLE bit of mess on your desk is not a big deal (it could actually be beneficial) but do you REALLY need those expired coupons from last month or that snow globe from three Christmas's ago cluttering up your desk? If only we could think of a way to get all that STUFF off of your desk!

Lucky for you it's National Clean Off Your Desk Day! But by the looks of it, THAT clean up job looks like it might take more than one day! Is there another person underneath all that clutter?!?!? Anywho, where do we begin? Firstly, you have sticky notes up the wazoo so get a memo case for those things! GEEZ! And how about prioritizing. Think about what projects need your immediate attention and put those in a labeled binder. In fact, put all your needed documents in a labeled and dated binder. Add so order in that mess. I am no expert but with all that mess and chaos on your desk, you might miss something (i.e. a deadline, an important detail of a project).

Feel free to seek some help as a recovering mess addict this National Clean Off Your Desk Day!

National Joygerm Month!

Enjoy life. This is not a dress rehearsal.--Unknown

Can a germ be a good thing?!?!? Only if it’s a joygerm!

What the heck is a joygerm? The joygerm finds its origin in happy people and spreads with verbal or physical contact with another person. You might have the joygerm if you have symptoms of delight, high spirits, joie de vivre, and a smile on your face, or something worse…the ability to laugh and feel/express glee.

A person can affect another in the following ways: a hug, kiss, love letter, compliment, or any unexpected act of compassion.

SO for National Joygerm Month, make it your goal to purposely give another person JOY! Have fun promoting happiness! Give you friends smiley faces or something.

HAPPINESS IS CONTAGIOUS, SO SPREAD THE JOY!

Let’s Rock n’ Roll: Old Rock Day

Remember when pet rocks were cool (for what reason? I have no idea!)? Or when you first learned how rocks were formed? So whether or not you are a geology geek, you can still enjoy Old Rock Day today.

QUICK! What is the oldest rock on Earth? Yeah, I have no idea either! But supposedly the oldest rocks found date back a little more than 4 BILLION years!

Rocks could be anything from a mountain, boulder, or a stone to a gem! So just have fun promoting a unique occasion like Old Rock Day.

National Get Organized Month

(Via: Professional Organizer Orange County)

Promote National Get Organized Month!

Are you a bit muddled by the clutter? That feeling is completely understandable. When you feel overwhelmed by the untidiness then your thinking becomes just as disordered. Lucky for you January is National Get Organized Month so fix that topsy-turvy attitude immediately!

Perhaps you can tackle your goal of getting organized by yourself OR with the help of a professional. Maybe you can even try getting on that show Clean House if you want to broadcast your huge mess.

No one said getting organized would be easy so write out your goals. Do you want to put your bills in an binder by month by due date in order to pay on time or maybe you can simply get organized by getting a planner and giving yourself structure and written deadlines!

Whatever you do don't make getting organized too overwhelming of a task. Spread the project out over time, taking each organizing project in pieces. So stop procrastinating and get organized!

National Skating Month

Dust off those ice skates because January is National Skating Month. Whether you are a complete beginner or you are a professional figure skater who can do a Quad Lutz and a Triple Axel with your eyes closed, skating is a super fun winter activity. The sport is almost as cool as playing in fresh snow! It’s only almost as cool because falling on ice hurts a bit; soft clean snow never hurt anyone.

Think you want to get into recreational figure skating? That is a great idea! How about you find an ice skating rink in your area and taking a field trip with some friends and co-workers! Just remember, figure skating isn’t one of those extreme sports/action sports where you think you are daredevil Evel Knievel so don’t go attempting any jumps as a beginner.

Get your balance and get proper training! Have fun promoting National Skating Month!

Prune Breakfast Month

(Via: David Lebovitz)

OK I support your steadfast decision to eat prunes because of their health benefits; prunes, kin to the plum, are definitely a great source of antioxidants and fiber! But I don’t know about prunes and breakfast. The fruit is a natural laxative so you are taking a chance with having prunes first thing in the morning. Hopefully your insides will move fast enough so you are NOT caught in traffic when the prunes start working their magic.

Are you thinking about incorporating prunes into your breakfast or overall diet in general? The easiest way is to drink prune juice but prunes are pretty versatile given that they can be used in either savory or sweet dishes. Try out some prune recipes; you never know you might like the taste of this somewhat unpopular fruit!

So for the whole month of January, prunes will be basking in their glory!

Happy Bird Day!

(Via: Wild Life Ranger)

Today is National Bird Day. So let us whip out the binoculars to promote this celebration of our avian friends! What kind of bird do you see flying by your window right now? Probably a pigeon or if somehow you are lucky enough to work in a tropical, more exotic area maybe you see Toucan Sam’s relatives in flight.

Birds are so free; they can travel and live wherever their wings are strong enough to take them. Flight would definitely be an awesome super power-the free alternative to flying on a plane with no cancellations or unanticipated delays!
