Square Root Day

Be There or Be Square

Square root day
is an occurrence that takes places only nine times a century and, we are the lucky ones that get to celebrate it today! Invented by Ron Gordon, a teacher, from Redwood City, California, it is the time of the year when the month and day are the square root of the last two digits of the year. For those of you who are mathematically challenged, 3 (March is the 3rd month and today is the 3rd day) is the square root of 9 (the year being '09).

Gordon even holds a contest, in which, whoever holds the biggest square root day celebration, wins $339.00 (naturally). So start counting food into square roots and figuring out when the next 10 square root days will occur. I'll give you a head start, the next time will be April 4th 2016. Wow.
