On this day, long, long ago in the year 1873, Americans emitted a collected gasp of shock as the New York Stock Exchange was forced to close for the first time ever due to a gi-normous banking crisis.
Although most of the mess had been mopped up by the week's end, scores upon scores of poor businessmen and investors suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and other horrible psychological traumas.
I just hope most of them were dead by the time 1929 rolled around. Sheesh, I could only imagine the carnage.
