Mail Day! ("Neither Rain Nor Snow" Day)

So boys and girls, today's zany holiday is "Neither Snow Nor Rain" Day. Does it ring any bells?

C'mon....think.

Keep trying.

I'll give you a clue....mailman.

Yes, "Neither Snow Nor Rain" are the words that begin what is usually thought of as the motto for the U.S. Post Office. In actuality, the department has no motto. Those words actually appeared scrawled on the front of the New York Post Office Building when it opened in 1914. With time, the whole saying, which goes...

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from completion of their appointed rounds"

...became synonymous with mail carriers all over the country.

Interesting, eh?

Celebrate today by getting yourself a nice letter opener, and make sure to thank your mail man (or woman) when you see them today.

We're looking for stories about mailmen, letter openers, and mail in general. Help us out.
